Governor appoints Farnaz Farkish Thompson to Mason BOV

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has appointed Farnaz Farkish Thompson, a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of McGuireWoods LLP, to the George Mason University Board of Visitors (BOV).

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Thompson served as deputy general counsel in the U.S. Department of Education and as associate university counsel at the University of Virginia. She began her BOV term this month. Her appointment runs through June 30, 2027.

Thompson is to complete the term initiated by Dorothy “Deecy” Gray, who recently stepped down from the 16-member board.

Thompson served in the U.S. Department of Education from 2018 to 2021, first as special counsel and then as deputy general counsel for postsecondary education. She also served as assistant attorney general in the Civil Litigation Division of the Virginia attorney general’s office.
